This workshop is a prerequisite for students registering for the Teacher Training Program.
It is also open to anyone wishing to achieve a broader understanding of the roots of yoga to enhance their personal practice.
Yoga has existed for centuries in various forms. Fascinating facts abound.
For example, did you know that yoga in India was not always been positively regarded by British occupants and European voyeurs? They saw them as ‘gnats or circus like performers, who performed fakir type tactics. Also, over the last 3 centuries, more emphasis was placed on the holy texts and the contemplative aspects of yoga. The renaissance of yoga in North America in the last 100 years has signified a ‘leap of several centuries’.
This workshop will present the interesting spectrum of yoga history from it’s roots in India, the variety of cultural interpretations in it’s homeland, it’s luminaries who braved the new world to spread the yogic teachings and the modern day American emissaries who will one day be immortalized for their contribution to yoga now.
